Flexible Weapons

Wushu is an art that requires the mastery of a wide range of different weapons. One class of such weapons are the flexible weapons. Their main purpose is to shoot, twine and retrieve. Sectioned weapons, such as the 3-sectioned staff and the 9-sectioned whip, are categorized under these flexible weapons. Other flail weapons, such as the flying weight and the meteor hammer, also fall under this group. All of these four, however, are known as chain weapons.

The sectioned staff and whip can both be made of metal rods, with each of the metal rods joined by metal chains. Many sectioned staffs are made from wood though. The rods that make up the whip are significantly smaller, and thus give more flexibility to it. All flexible weapons require excellent eye-hand coordination, but the sectioned whip is more difficult to control.

Rope dart or rope javelin are names used to refer to meteor hammers and flying weights. Both are made of ropes with the main weapon stuck on the end of the ropes. Meteor hammers feature a blunt weight, while the flying weights have heavy darts on their ends. This is why the meteor hammers deal concussive rather than piercing damage.
